Description:

The Experience

This journey follows Portugal through the lens of football, but never forgets the places themselves. It begins in Lisbon, where stadium tunnels, neighbourhood bars, and everyday street life sit side by side. From there, the rhythm softens along the coast in Cascais, before shifting decisively to Madeira , the landscape that shaped Cristiano Ronaldo long before the trophies.

Football is present throughout  museums, early clubs, matchday atmospheres  but it never overwhelms the experience. Walks along the waterfront, island food, mountain viewpoints and unhurried afternoons balance the intensity. It’s a trip that understands fandom as curiosity, not obsession, and allows space for both context and quiet.

Who This Trip Is For

This trip is designed for football-literate travellers who want depth rather than spectacle. Ideal for friends, couples, or small groups who enjoy sport as culture  stadiums and stories paired with landscapes, food, and local life.

It works well for fans of Ronaldo who are equally interested in where he comes from, not just what he’s won. It’s not for those looking to chase celebrity access or private properties, nor for travellers who want packed sightseeing days.

Highlights

Day 1 – Lisbon arrival & big‑club stadium tour

Land in Lisbon, drop bags and head straight to either Estádio da Luz (Benfica) or Estádio José Alvalade (Sporting CP) for a stadium and museum tour; both offer player tunnels, pitch‑side views and trophy rooms that are perfect for fans.

Evening walk in Baixa/Chiado with a relaxed dinner at a sports‑friendly bar where you can watch a Portuguese league game if dates align.

Day 2 – Cascais & Ronaldo’s villa area

Take a day trip to Cascais and rent bikes or an e‑scooter along the coast to Guincho; include a detour into Quinta da Marinha, the ultra‑luxury enclave where Ronaldo is building a villa, to get a feel for the neighbourhood he chose for his family’s base.

Late lunch at a seaside restaurant in Cascais with fresh grilled fish and Portuguese pastries, then sunset at Boca do Inferno with a “this is Ronaldo‑level sea view” photo moment.

(Note: Ronaldo’s actual house is private property; plan this as a neighbourhood spin‑through, not a house “visit.”)

Day 3 – Lisbon football immersion & flight to Madeira

Check match schedules: if Benfica or Sporting are playing at home, reserve this day for a live game, arriving early to soak up the fan atmosphere, chants and pre‑match street food.

Take an evening flight to Funchal (Madeira), check into a central hotel; if you want full immersion, consider the Pestana CR7 Funchal, a Ronaldo‑branded hotel with CR7 decor and a sporty vibe.

Day 4 – CR7 Museum & waterfront Ronaldo trail

Start at the CR7 Museum on Praça CR7 in Funchal: see Golden Balls, Golden Boots and over 200 trophies that trace his career from Funchal to global stardom, allowing 45–60 minutes.

Outside the museum, take photos with the Ronaldo statue on the harbourfront, then stroll along Avenida do Mar, hunting for Ronaldo murals and graffiti tributes scattered around central Funchal.

Day 5 – Childhood neighbourhoods & first clubs

Join or replicate a “Ronaldo origins” style tour that visits the key places from his early life: the parish where he was born (São Pedro), the Santo António neighbourhood where he grew up, and simple streets that contrast strongly with his life today.

Visit his early clubs: CF Andorinha, where he started playing at seven while his father was kit man, and CD Nacional in the Choupana district, where you can also see the Cristiano Ronaldo Campus Futebol and a small museum with memorabilia.

Day 6 – Match day or stadium & island fun

Check CS Marítimo’s fixtures at Estádio do Marítimo (Barreiros); if they are at home, go for local top‑flight football in a compact, atmospheric stadium perched above Funchal.

If there’s no game, still visit the stadium area for photos and combine it with a classic Madeira experience such as the Monte cable car and wicker toboggan ride or a levada walk to keep non‑footballers happy.

Day 7 – Madeira landscapes with a Ronaldo twist

Do a sunrise or morning trip to Pico do Arieiro or Cabo Girão skywalk; frame it as “Ronaldo‑level training views” for your football group photo while enjoying some of Madeira’s most dramatic scenery.

Afternoon free in Funchal for shopping and coffee; look for street art featuring Ronaldo’s face and pick up CR7‑themed souvenirs such as shirts or local wine labelled with references to him.

Day 8 – Food, favourites & departure

Have a relaxed brunch in Funchal and lean into local dishes that would fit Ronaldo’s diet: grilled fish, fresh salads and lean meats alongside Madeira staples like bolo do caco bread and espetada skewers.

If staying at or near Pestana CR7 Funchal, end with a drink at the Off‑Side Bar & Lounge, where the menu includes playful football‑themed items like the G.O.A.T. burger and cocktails referencing his awards, then head to the airport.
