The Capital, the Palaces, and the Andalusian South
A high-speed rail journey balancing the art of the capital with the deep Moorish history of the south.

Trip Overview
Description:
The Experience
You could easily spend an entire week just trying to navigate the crowds and long distances trying to see the whole of Spain, which is why when travellers ask us how to tackle the country for the first time, we usually tell them to look to the center and the south.
Skipping the cross-country flight to Barcelona allows you to rely entirely on Spain’s excellent high-speed train network, the AVE. We start you in Madrid to absorb the energy of the capital, walking through the Retiro Park and taking in the sheer scale of the Prado Museum without rushing.
From there, the train pulls you south into Andalusia, where the landscape shifts to rolling olive groves and white-washed hill towns. You’ll spend a couple of days in Granada to explore the Alhambra—timing the visit for the cooler, quieter afternoon hours—before moving west to Seville.
By clustering your time in these three distinct but connected cities, you avoid the exhaustion of packing and unpacking every day. You get to actually sit in a plaza with a glass of vermouth, watch the evening unfold, and feel the distinct shift in culture from the Spanish royal capital to the Moorish heartland.
Who This Trip Is For
This works brilliantly for someone visiting Spain for the first time who wants to experience the iconic elements—flamenco, historic palaces, and late-night tapas—but hates feeling rushed.
It suits travelers who love the romance of European train travel and appreciate a schedule that builds in mandatory afternoon downtime. Because the southern cities can get incredibly hot, it requires a willingness to adopt the local rhythm: getting out early, resting in the afternoon, and staying out late.
Highlights
Day 1 — Landing in the Capital
We have a driver meet you at the airport and take you to a quiet hotel in the Malasaña neighbourhood, leaving your first evening open to wander the narrow streets and adjust to the late Spanish dining hours.

Take a scenic train ride to Seville and check into a boutique hotel in the old Jewish Quarter of Barrio Santa Cruz, stepping out for an informal evening tapas crawl through the local markets.
Day 6 — Tilework and Evening Rhythms
Wander through the sweeping semi-circle of the Plaza de España and the Moorish arches of the Royal Alcázar, capping off the night with an authentic, intimate flamenco performance.
