From the Bavarian Alps to the Rhine Vineyards
From Alpine castles to vineyard towns along Germany’s most storied river.

Trip Overview
Description:
The Experience
Start in Munich for a few days to settle into Bavaria’s rhythm. The historic centre, the Altstadt, is compact and walkable, and the city’s pleasures tend to be simple: a shaded beer garden, a long walk through the English Garden, a market lunch at Viktualienmarkt.
From here the landscape changes quickly. Two hours south the Alps rise abruptly, and the castles built by King Ludwig II appear almost theatrical against the mountains. Instead of rushing through as most visitors do, spend the night in the quiet lakes around Füssen once the day-trippers leave.
The route then bends west toward the Rhine Valley. Medieval towns, terraced vineyards and castle ruins line the riverbanks. Base yourself in a small wine town such as Bacharach or Rüdesheim and explore by boat, short train rides and vineyard walks.
The journey begins in Bavaria’s beer gardens and ends among the vineyards of the Rhine. A classic introduction to Germany without the usual rush.
Who This Trip Is For
Ideal for travellers visiting Germany for the first time who want to see the country’s defining landscapes without feeling pulled along a checklist route. It suits those who enjoy history, scenic drives, good food and wine, and small historic towns along the way.
The pacing avoids the common mistake of trying to cover too much ground too quickly, instead leaving room to settle into each region properly.
Comfortable walking over cobbled streets and castle staircases is useful. The journey works especially well for couples or families travelling together who want a balanced mix of city life, countryside and culture.
