Egypt by the Coast
Six nights focused on Cairo’s layered history and Alexandria’s Mediterranean character.

Trip Overview
Description:
The Experience
Egypt is not only temples. It is also urban, layered, and quietly Mediterranean.
This route begins in Cairo, but it does not stop at the pyramids. Time is spent in Islamic Cairo and the Coptic quarter, walking streets shaped by centuries of faith, trade and architecture. The city is read slowly, through neighbourhoods and lived in detail rather than through scale alone.
From there, the journey moves north to Alexandria. The air feels different by the sea. The pace eases. Greco-Roman ruins, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and long walks along the Corniche replace desert stone with salt light. Cafés and unhurried afternoons become part of the rhythm. It is a softer entry into Egypt, less about monumentality and more about texture.
Who This Trip Is For
For travellers who prefer cities to temples, and conversation to spectacle. It suits returning visitors, or those drawn to architecture, layered faith traditions, and Mediterranean history.
This is not a checklist journey. It moves slowly and rewards curiosity.
Highlights
Day 1 | Arrival in Cairo
Arrive in Cairo and transfer into the heart of the city. From your hotel in central Cairo, the rhythm begins immediately — traffic below, a call to prayer in the distance, the Nile not far away. The evening is left open to settle in at your own pace.
Overnight: Cairo
Day 2 | Cairo — Islamic Quarter
Begin at the Citadel, where the city spreads out in every direction. Walk down into Al-Muizz Street, one of the oldest avenues in the Islamic world, its facades layered with centuries of stonework. As the light softens, drift through Khan el-Khalili, where trade and conversation still define the mood.
Overnight: Cairo
Day 3 | Cairo — Coptic & Jewish Heritage
Spend the day in Old Cairo, where faith traditions sit side by side. Visit the Hanging Church, built above a Roman gate, and the Ben Ezra Synagogue, quietly holding its own history. The neighbourhood is compact, but the stories run deep.
Overnight: Cairo
Day 4 | Cairo → Alexandria
Drive north towards the Mediterranean. The landscape gradually flattens before the sea appears. In Alexandria, descend into the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, where Egyptian and Greco-Roman worlds meet underground.
Overnight: Alexandria
Day 5 | Alexandria — Library & Citadel
Visit the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a modern echo of the ancient library that once defined the city. Continue to the Citadel of Qaitbay, built on the site of the legendary lighthouse. Later, walk along the Corniche as the sea breeze sets the tone.
Overnight: Alexandria
Day 6 | Alexandria — Roman Echoes
Explore the Roman Amphitheatre, a reminder of the city’s layered past. The afternoon is best spent slowly — perhaps in one of Alexandria’s old cafés, watching the Mediterranean light change.
Overnight: Alexandria

Return to Cairo for your onward flight, carrying a quieter, more textured understanding of Egypt.
