Cairo to Aswan, at River Pace
A seven-night journey along Egypt’s Pharaonic spine, paced by the Nile rather than by a checklist.

Trip Overview
Description:
The Experience
Egypt can overwhelm if you let it. The monuments are vast, the distances long, and the days easily turn into a checklist. This journey slows the current.
We begin in Cairo, early, before the buses arrive at Giza. The plateau feels different at that hour. The Grand Egyptian Museum helps place what you’ve seen into context. Then we move south to Luxor, once Thebes, where temples and tombs are explored without hurry.
Rather than board a large cruise ship, you take to the Nile on a traditional Dahabiya. The pace follows wind and current. Smaller landings, fewer people, and long stretches of quiet water shape the middle of the journey. Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu and Kom Ombo are visited with care and good timing. The journey finishes in Aswan, where the light softens and the air feels clearer, bringing the Pharaonic chapter to a natural close.
Who This Trip Is For
For those who want to understand Egypt properly the first time, and prefer depth over speed. It works well for couples and families who are more comfortable in smaller settings than in large tour groups.
The route suits travellers who enjoy history but do not want to feel moved along from site to site. We start early when it helps, and leave space where it matters. The Dahabiya brings privacy and a natural rhythm, rather than staged entertainment.
If you want the Nile done quietly, without noise or rush, this is perhaps the most balanced way to do it.

Day 3 | Cairo → Luxor
Fly south to Luxor, the ancient city of Thebes. In the afternoon, wander through the vast temple complex of Karnak as the sun begins to soften. Overnight: Luxor
Day 4 | Luxor — West Bank & Embarkation
Cross the Nile at dawn to the West Bank. Visit selected tombs in the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatshepsut before the day grows busy. In the afternoon, board your Dahabiya and begin sailing south, leaving the road behind.

Day 5 | The Nile — Edfu & River Life
Sail to Edfu and visit the Temple of Horus. The rest of the day is unhurried, drifting past palm groves and small villages, stopping where larger boats cannot.

Day 6 | The Nile — Kom Ombo
Visit Kom Ombo, the temple shared by two gods. By afternoon, you are back on the river, watching the landscape change gradually as Aswan approaches.

Disembark in Aswan. Reach Philae Temple by boat, set on its island. The afternoon is free, perhaps for a slow felucca sail or simply time by the water.
